92 Pts Joe Czerwinski - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate |
Newcomer François Grenier has turned in a star performance in only his second vintage. The 2015 Saint Joseph Chaussenot represents his top wine, sourced from the lieu-dit of the same name in the village of Saint-Désirat. It's a granite terroir, reflected in the wine's firm but fine tannins and crisp-edged structure. Violets, blueberries and blackberries are joined by hints of vanilla and cedary spice, but look for those oak elements to integrate better with the fruit over the next couple of years. It's a medium-bodied wine, yet it offers plenty of flavor without excess weight and a long, spicy-savory finish. |
92 Pts Jeb Dunnuck - jebdunnuck.com |
The 2015 Saint Joseph Chaussonot comes from the more northern part of the Northern Rhône yet has enough richness and depth that Iâd have guessed it was from the southern part of the appellation. Gorgeous cassis, blackberries, smoked earth, pepper, and liquid violets notes give way to a medium-bodied, rich, powerful Saint Joseph that has building richness, a great mid-palate, and ripe tannins. Itâs just another smoking good 2015 that already offers pleasure yet will keep for 8-10 years. |
92 Pts Wine & Spirits |
Only the second vintage for François Grenier, a grower in St-Désirat who sold his grapes until 2014, this is a little bit oaky, but in a delicious way. The smoke, earth and dried herb scents conjure up a campfire in a forest clearing; the savor of the dark, firm fruit conjures up thoughts of the roast lamb that would go well with it. |
Description:
In the Northern Rhone Valley, Syrah is King! Saint Joseph is a small appellation that gets recognition for standing out from other regions for being one of the best areas to grow Syrah. It's cool climate and intense influence of earth is what makes it so unique. The wines are medium to full bodied but hold a ton of intense flavors. You can drink them in their youth, but with time the wines become some of the best in the region.
