93 Pts Josh Raynolds - Vinous Media

"(made from 38-year-old vines and aged for 18 months in a combination of new and used French oak barriques): Deep ruby. A deeply perfumed bouquet evokes ripe redcurrant, cherry, pipe tobacco, smoky minerals and pungent herbs. Seamless and appealingly sweet, offering powerful red berry compote, rose pastille and bitter chocolate flavors that slowly take a darker turn in the glass. Finishes extremely long and smooth, with clinging sweetness, velvety tannins and an echo of candied flowers."

Description:

"Planted in 1978, the Halcyon Block Cabernet exists on karri loam over white clay soil and is extremely low cropping. Basket pressed, fermented in open fermenters and matured in a blend of new and old barrels for approximately 18 months." - Winery
