90 Pts Josh Raynolds - Vinous Media

"Bright red. An exotically perfumed bouquet evokes wild red berries, incense and fresh rose, with subtle smoke and mineral nuances building in the glass. Juicy and precise, offering tangy redcurrant and raspberry flavors that become sweeter with air. Smooth, seamless and refreshingly bitter on the finish, leaving behind notes of candied plum and cherry pit." Reviewed July 2014.

Description:

"Confero {to bring together} is, and will always be, the practice of bringing distinct vineyards and clones of Pinot Noir together from differing sub-regions within the Willamette valley. From this ideal, we are able to capture unique strengths of each parcel and adjoin them with qualities of other individual sites, thus enhancing the overall complexity and depth a given vintage can provide." - Winery

This wine offers freshness: brilliant red fruits, exotic spices, lively minerality. Purity. This is precisely what Pinot Noir should be.

For the Confero Pinot Noir, winemaker Eric Eide sources grapes from sustainable vineyards throughout Willamette, building complexity through a variety of terroir and Pinot Noir clones. From 20+-year old Clone '777' on its own roots, to densely planted 'Pommard' on volcanic soils, Eide brings together a beautiful bottle of pure Willamette Pinot Noir. The 2012 vintage was stellar, a "lazy man's vintage," according to Eide. The weather cooperated - which it doesn't always do. This is a classic Pinot Noir, made for those classic pairings: pork, salmon, and mushrooms. Keep in mind, there are 375mL bottles, the perfect size for dinner for two or for pairing with an appetizer course. Plus, for the giving CinderellaWine.com follower, this size bottle makes a beautiful gift enhancement.

Now a winemaker in his own right, Eric Eide was, for a long time, on the distribution side of the wine industry... until the temptation was just too strong to overcome. Pinot Noir tends to be like that: enticing, seductive, some old Ricky Martin songs come to mind...

Come 2008, Eide found himself a cellar hand (which sounds much nicer than another commonly used term, cellar rat) at two Willamette wineries: Le Cadeau and Carabella. In an intense harvest season, Eide got more than a "crash-course" in grapegrowing and winemaking.

While still lending a hand at Carabella, Eide established his own label. Aberrant Cellars is founded simply on the concept of integrity - the refusal to take any short-cuts - something learned through his work in Oregon and through countless conversations with Burgundy's best vignerons.
