"Buio Buio, which translates to "dark dark," shows an inky-dark color and rich, soft concentration. This handsome bottle offers pretty aromas of blackberry, plum, spice and cinnamon, with sweet-tasting cherry endnotes." Reviewed 2/1/2013 |
91 Pts Wine Review Online |
"Made from the Carignano del Sulcis grape, the local name for Carignan grown in the Sulcis region of southwestern Sardinia, Buio Buio is a name to remember. For a vigorous and robust red, it has surprising finesse. It's a cunning combination of ripe spiced fruit and savory, almost bitter, notes. Though it has a lush texture, there's sufficient backbone -- tannins and acidity -- that makes it ideal with slow-cooked meats." Michael Apstein, Reviewed Feb 3,2015 |
90 Pts Ian Dagata - Vinous Media |
"(100% carignano; 14% alcohol): Opaque ruby. Aromas of red cherries, licorice, tobacco and medicinal herbs. Broad, pliant and very ripe but dry, with a chewy texture to the flavors of dark cherry, tobacco and menthol. Finishes with fine-grained tannins and noteworthy persistence. Bright acidity provides lift and cut at the back. A nicely delineated, nuanced wine." Reviewed March 2014 |
Description:
Bouquet: Good intensity, medium breadth; a complex amalgam of crisp, balsamic notes of red berry fruit and blossoms, together with more complex hints of spices and new oak.
Palate: Rich, full, satisfying. The first sip reveals the excellent balance, with an appealingly silky texture, a touch of crispness, and supple tannins that provide a distinctive smoothness on the mid-palate. A long-lingering finish offers new sensations.
Serving suggestions: First courses of game, wild boar stew, mature cheeses.
