"What a nose with sweet berries and wonderful flower. Exotic. Full body with fine tannins and a long stylish finish. Wonderful density and balance to this wine. 20% Malbec in this. Drink or hold." (02/13) |
91 Pts Robert Parker - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate |
"The 2010 La Gargone, which is a very limited production of 7,000 bottles, is a blend of 60% Merlot, 20% Malbec, 18% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. I donât think youâll find another wine with those percentages in Bordeaux, even among the classified St.-Emilions. Yields were a staggeringly low 16 hectoliters per hectare, and the wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered, tipping the scales - no exaggeration -at 15.6%. Weâre getting into Southern Rhone Valley Chateauneuf du Pape alcohol levels at this point. It is a sensational wine, seriously rich, a sleeper of the vintage, with notes of truffle, barbecue smoke, charcoal, charcuterie, and blackberry and cassis fruit. It tastes like a big, rich classified growth and is half a degree higher in alcohol than even La Mission Haut-Brion in 2010! This beauty should drink well for up to a decade, but who is going to wait? Consumers should be making a major effort to acquire any of these three wines, which are consistently well-made. The 2010s are right up there with the brilliant 2009s that were produced by this over-achieving estate from a 20-acre, south-facing hillside vineyard just to the west of Fronsac. Proprietor Francois Dubernard seems to get everything right no matter what the vintage conditions are, and he has excelled again in 2010.Kudos to Domaine de Bouscat! These are all exclusives of Jeffrey M. Davies' Signature Selections." (02/13) |
90 Pts Stephen Tanzer - Vinous Media |
"Bright, deep ruby-red with a violet tinge. Aromas of blackberry, violet, bitter chocolate and licorice show a candied lift. Densely packed, supple and fine-grained, with concentrated, youthfully medicinal flavors of dark berries, licorice and fresh herbs. Boasts excellent fruit intensity and a restrained sweetness and finishes pliant and lively, with fine-grained tannins and very good length. Plenty of stuffing and breadth here." (08/13) |
Description:
Robert Parker says all the right things about this wine too, calling it "It is a sensational wine, seriously rich, a sleeper of the vintageâ¦.", and continued on saying that "Consumers should be making a major effort to acquire any of these three wines, which are consistently well-made. The 2010s are right up there with the brilliant 2009s that were produced by this over-achieving estate from a 20-acre, south-facing hillside vineyard just to the west of Fronsac."
