95 Pts Pinot Report |
"Medium-deep ruby color; complex, dark, earthy cherry aromas; deep, complex dark cherry and plum flavors with earthy, savory spice notes; some tannin and oak; silky texture; good structure and balance; long finish. Deep and many layered Pinot with great structure and length." (06/14) |
91+ Pts John Gilman - View from the Cellar |
"The 2012 Estate Vineyard bottling from Jake and Ben Fetzer is excellent, offering up a superb and black fruity nose of black cherries, a touch of dark berry, woodsmoke, cola, a lovely base of soil, a touch of Mendo fresh herbs and a very stylish framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, fullish, pure and impressively light on its feet, with a good core of fruit, fine soil signature, a touch of backend, ripe tannin and excellent length and grip on the nascently complex and very well-balanced finish. I really like the balance and purity this wine shows right out of the blocks. Good juice. 2014-2035+." (02/14) |
90 Pts Josh Raynolds - Vinous Media |
"Brilliant ruby-red. Intense, mineral-laced red berry liqueur, cola and floral scents are deepened by hints of vanilla and licorice. Concentrated but lively and precise as well, offering juicy raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that become sweeter with air. Shows excellent clarity and lift on the finish, which is framed by silky tannins that merge smoothly into the wine's fruit." (06/14) |
Description:
"Our 2012 flagship Pinot Noir is made from Dijon clones 115(73%), 777(18%), and 113(9%). The wine was aged in French oak (33% new) sur lie for 10 months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered." -Winery
WINERY:
"Ben and Jake, sons of Bobby and Sheila Fetzer, grew up on the Home Ranch, a property developed by grandparents Barney and Kathleen Fetzer with the help of their 11 children. As Third Generation grape growers and winemakers, their goals are to continue what their grandfather started, to follow their fatherâs vision of pioneering a new region for exceptional Pinot Noir and to continue learning about the Masut vineyard site. Jake and Ben agree 'We have learned that our work is never finished.' Today Jake Fetzer and his wife, Gina Caito, live on the Home Ranch. Ben Fetzer lives on the familyâs ranch in Covelo where cattle graze and wheat grows." -Winery
