"Impressive for this appellation. Spicy exotic nose with vanilla, hazelnuts and cocoa. Opens up with a nice earthy minerality and polished fruit. Wonderfully juicy and nicely textured on the palate with good length. Soft and fine tannins. Really delicious to drink now, but tannins will soften further over the next couple of years. From Baron de Edmond de Rothschild." (02/13) |

"Bold, ripe and almost flashy, showing good drive and vivacity, with fresh acidity pumping the boysenberry, steeped plum and raspberry fruit along while a roasted apple wood note fills in the finish. Drink now through 2018. 18,300 cases made. -JM" (03/13) |
Description:
"The Chateau des Laurets vineyard covers 95 contiguous hectares which straddle two AOC districts: Puisseguin-Saint-Emilion and Montagne-Saint-Emilion. Within the property, the 50 hectares located on Puisseguin land are devoted to the production of our Chateau des Laurets cru."
"The grounds are entered from the north side, opposite the park, and afford a view of the superb chateau built around 1860, which owes its architectural distinction to the octagonal central tower that dominates its back portion."
"The vineyards of Chateau des Laurets are located along hillsides with southern exposure and occasional outcroppings of limestone. This excellent clay-limestone terroir gives the Merlot of Saint-Emilion its full power and typicality. Extra care is given to growing methods to achieve, in particular, a low yield of high quality grapes at optimal maturity."
"The grapes are harvested manually (machines are used as back-up when faster work is required). Upon reception in the vat room, the entire harvest is sorted then de-stemmed before being transferred to the tanks."
"All the wood, stainless steel and concrete vats are thermo-regulated. The grapes macerate in these for an extended period before the start of barrel ageing, which lasts 14 to 18 months."
"Baron Benjamin de Rothschild acquired this splendid estate in 2003 with the intention of realising its full potential. Renovations to the vat room began in spring 2004 to offer this wine modern, high-performance facilities." - Winery
