"From holdings in La Mancha, the 2011 Volver (100% Tempranillo that spent 18 months in new French oak prior to being bottled unfiltered) is a 2,000-case cuvee that comes from a single vineyard. Abundant notes of acacia flowers intermixed with black currants and blackberries are offered in a flavorful, medium-bodied, slightly spicy format. A nicely textured mouthfeel, sweet tannin and a long finish suggest this stunning value will drink well for 3-4 years. Wines such as this normally sell for $30-$50 a bottle, but this beauty is priced just over $16." |
Description:
"Bright purple, dark berries, cherry pit, licorice and tobacco on the nose. Slowly unfolds to offer sappy cassis and bitter cherry flavours lifted by tangy acidity and complicated by a peppery, spicy quality. Finishes gripping and long, with resonating cherry and spice notes. Give this some aeration or a couple more years of bottle age." - Winery
Vineyards:
"The grapes for this wine come a single vineyard of 28 hectares (72 acres), called "Finca Los Juncares", that was planted in 1957 located at an altitude of 660 meters above sea level. The soils are sandy ( up to 1 meter in depth) with a lot of iron rich clay, and a thick layer of chalk. Winters are very cold; summers are hot with cool nights and it is a very arid climate. Only after very careful vineyard selections, the best vines of Tempranillo grapes are hand harvested." - Winery
