93 Pts Wine Enthusiast

#2 on Wine Enthusiast's Top 100 of 2012!
"A bold statement of dark Malbec, it's very rich and very concentrated. The wine has considerable tannins to go with the weight of its fruit. With excellent potential, this wine, made from old-vine grapes, should age for at least seven years. -R.V." (06/12)

Description:

Wine:
"A brilliant color, dark red with purplish gleams. A very expressive bouquet of black fruits, dominated by blackberry and blackcurrant. The attack on the palate is supple : in the mouth it has very fine, well-blended tannins with a harmonious hint of oak which persists in a lingering finish. This vintage carries the name of one the estate's oldest areas of land, planted at a spot called 'La Lande' and harvested by hand. " - Importer

Terroir:
"Domaine de Cause is located on a siderolithic soil: siliceous and iron minerals that nourish the vines and which are known for giving fruity wines on one hand and blended, rounded tannins on the other. This soil type is found on the higher areas of the Cahors appellation. The parcelled division of vines (20 parcels in all) is a result of the lie of the land. The scenery here is magnificent. " - Importer

Viticulture/Winemaking:
"Total vatting period 25 jours: cold maceration before alcoholic fermentation begins. Alcoholic fermentation controlled at 28 degrees C with extraction by cap punching. Final hot maceration. Matured for 12 months in casks from December to December. Weekly cask ullage. Drawing off in mid June. Blending from casks into vats after one year: the wine continues maturing for 5 more months." - Importer
