96 Pts Robert Whitley - Wine Review Online |
"Grgich is one of the true giants of Napa Valley Cabernet and the current vintage, 2009, is living proof. This is an exquisitely balanced Napa Cab that delivers layers of ripe cassis and blackberry fruit, with well integrated tannins and firm acidity. It has the structure necessary for long life in the cellar, and I can say from past experience that few Napa Valley Cabernets age as beautifully as Grgich. Drink it now if you must, but this wine will astound those with the patience to wait for it to reach maturity in about 2020." (11/12) |
5 Pts Restaurant Wine |
"Exceptional; supple, ripely flavored and medium rich; a Cabernet with intense character, good balance, and a long, mildly tannic finish. Very fine quality. It tastes of blackberry, plum, black licorice, toast, vanilla, and spicy oak. One of Grgichâs best-ever âstandardâ Cabernets. 5% Petit Verdot, 1% Cabernet Franc. Aged 21 months in French oak barrels, 60% new. Biodynamic grapes. 62% Yountville, 33% Rutherford, 5% Calistoga." |
Description:
"Our Yountville vineyard forms the heart of our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, with our Rutherford and Calistoga vineyards rounding out the blend. This Cabernet is packed with rich aromas of black cherry, black licorice and a hint of roasted coffee. Its full body and smooth tannins make it the perfect partner with grilled steak, rack of lamb or roasted duck." -Winery
WINERY:
"Miljenko 'Mike' Grgich first gained international recognition at the celebrated 'Paris Tasting' of 1976. Then, in a now-historic blind tasting, a panel of eminent French judges swirled, sniffed, and sipped an array of the fabled white Burgundies of France and a small sampling of upstart Chardonnays from the Napa Valley. When their scores were tallied, the French judges were shocked: they had chosen Mike's 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay as the finest white wine in the world. Mon Dieu! The results stunned the international wine establishment and immediately earned Mike a reputation as one of the greatest winemakers in the world." -Winery
