Description:

Wine:
"Our 2010 Sonoma Coast bottling features pinot noir grown in the rolling hills southwest of Sebastopol. In this area, vineyards form an ever expanding patchwork across slopes with a long heritage of premium apple culitvation. The Ross Ranch is one such vineyard, planted on a low ridge crest at the intersection of Pleasant Hill and Elphick Roads."

"This vineyard is perfectly situated on the region's signature Goldridge soil, a fast draining loam preferred for both grape and apples. We selected clones 115 and Pommard from this site as best expressing the character of the Sonoma Coast AVA. The influences of fine loamy soils, modest elevation, and afternoon winds off the Pacific result in a savory, nuanced pinot noir." - Winery

Winemaker Notes:
"The 2010 growing season was challenging for Sonoma County; spring rains during flowering reduced fruit set, and a heat blast the last week of August took its toll. By virtue of its slightly elevated location in the hills above Sebastopol, Ross Ranch fruit was not too severely affected. A second heat wave coincident to our picking date brought real urgency to our activities. With a pre-dawn pick just in the knick of time, the fruit arrived in the winery in great shape. The resulting wine showcases the spicy, savory flavors for which the Sebastopol hills are known."

"Our 2010 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir starts off with alluring aromas of cherry, coriander, and black tea. On the palate, the medium body delivers cherry and earthy exotic spices, progressing into a lengthy finish with suggestions of dried herbs and the forest floor. The 2010 Sonoma Coast pairs well with aged cheeses, mushroom risotto, and fresh crusty sourdough with farm butter on the side." - Winery
