"Wood aging has given this a spicy feel. It's rich, full bodied and textured with a citrus tang. The texture is creamy, with pear and grapefruit notes. Age for another two years. - RV" (09/12) |
Description:
Proudcer:
"100% family-owned vineyard. The "Vignobles Courselle" started in 1950, when Andre Courselle bought Chateau Thieuley in the famous Bordeaux region and laid the foundation of a great vineyard. In 1972, his son, Francis, a young engineer and oenology professor, took over the management of Thieury Vineyards. In 30 years, the acreage increased from 4 to 80 hectares, spread over three properties: Chateau Thieuley, Clos St Anne, and Chateau St Genes. Marie and Sylvie, Francis Courselle's two daughters, inherited the family passion for wine."
"Before passing the family business on to his daughters, Francis Courselle instilled in them his passion for the vineyards and wine. Marie and Sylvie Courselle both graduated as Agricultural Engineers and Oenologists. They further enriched their experience by working at various wineries around the world, in Australia, California, Italy, Spain and throughout France in the Languedoc, Burgundy, and at Chateauneuf du Pape. At Chateau Thieuley, they have divided the tasks between them. Marie is in charge of the technical aspects of winemaking, whereas Sylvie runs the commercial side. Together, this charming duo is dedicated to continuing the tradition of quality at Chateau Thieuley." - Planet Bordeaux
Terroir:
"The name Thieuley comes from the ancient French word "tioule," a tile factory that used the local clay, a key component of the great Bordeaux vineyards. Our soils are a mix of clay and gravel. In Clos Ste. Anne, the quality of the terroir lies in the combination of the southerly exposure and the slopes with deep gravel soils on top of fine clay and calcareous subsoil. All these factors help the grapes to reach perfect maturation, especially the Merlot." - Planet Bordeaux
Vineyards:
"Francis Courselle was always convinced that wine quality starts in the vineyard. Right from the beginning, he planted his vineyard on the grand-cru model using strict practices: high density (5,500 vines per hectare), grass growing between the rows to create a moderate water stress, canopy management, leaf plucking for better exposure and grapes, and yield management with green harvest." - Planet Bordeaux
This wine was also rated 89 Points by both the Wine Spectator and the Wine Advocate (Robert Parker), and 86-88 Points by Ian D'Agata in the International Wine Cellar.
