"Having been a long-time and quite devout fan of the Dujac Gruenchers, I hate to admit that my heart has been stolen by the Malconsorts here, but this is an amazingly beautiful bottle of premier cru. The nose on the 2007 is flat out brilliant, as it soars from the glass in a blaze of pure cherries, raspberries, orange zest, coffee, duck, great minerality and spicy wood. On the palate the wine is fullish, long and very pure, with great soil inflection, plenty of spice, tangy acids, fine-grained tannins and a very long and sappy backend that closes with a note of chocolate. A great wine. 2016-2040." (02/09) |

90 Pts Stephen Tanzer - Vinous Media |
"Very pale red. Complex nose offers a subtle red raspberry note along with some earthy underbrush. Juicy and intense on entry, then sweeter and richer than the Beaux-Monts in the middle palate, with good lift and a floral nuance. Finishes with dusty tannins and a slight heaviness this wine did not show in barrel. I prefer the Malconsorts in 2008 but not in this vintage." (04/10) |
90 Pts David Schildknecht - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate |
"Smoked meat, star anise, clove, black tea, and dark berries in the nose of Dujac's 2007 Vosne-Romanee Les Malconsorts set the themes for a palate expansive and with lasting intensity despite a certain lightness of color and weight. There is a lot of class here - as, of course, there should be for its vineyard and price - and it can be enjoyed anytime over the next 4-6 years, I suspect." (06/10) |
Description:
Winemaking:
"Jacques Seysses described the 2007 vintage as having a 'very early flowering with good early season weather that was unfortunately largely undone by a poor and wet summer. The second half of August however was very fine and we began picking on September 1st. It was necessary to do a severe sorting and as a result, we had a very small harvest. Sugars ranged from 12 to 13% but we had reasonably good phenolic ripeness thanks mainly to all of the old vines that we now have. In fact, I would go so far as to say that old vines were probably the most important qualitative determinant outside of the basic requirements of doing good vineyard work, proper sorting, etc. Destemming ranged from 0 to 30% so all the wines have a good percentage of stems in them. In terms of vinification, we did out best to preserve the natural elegance and finesse of the vintage. Overall, the vintage reminds me of 2000, which gave generous, ripe and round wines meant for early to mid-term drinking. I think consumers will like them very much, just as consumers have praised the 2000s.'"
"The Dujac 2007s are very much representative of the vintage as a whole, which is to say that it strongly favored old vines and the best expositions and while it's true that the grands crus virtually always produce the best wines, it is especially true in 2007. As to the Dujac 2006s, they have turned out to be lovely wines that are a bit riper if not quite as elegant as their 2007 counterparts." - Producer note on Domaine Dujac: Allen Meadows, Burghound
