"Meaning 'The Mountain', the 2007 Saint Jean du Barroux Cotes du Ventoux Blanc La Montagne, a blend of 34% Grenache Blanc, 33% Bourboulenc, and 33% Clairette, tastes more like a serious Chateauneuf- du-Pape Blanc than a Cotes du Ventoux with copious amount of minerality, stone fruits, peach, fennel, and honeycomb aromas on the nose. Deep, layered, and pure, this impressive Cotes du Ventoux Blanc is still drinking beautifully (no small feat at 5 years after the vintage) with notable freshness, pure fruit, and a focused, clean finish. Not tired in the least, I don't see any reason this won't continue to evolve gracefully for another decade." (09/11) |
Description:
"Equal parts Grenache Blanc, Bourboulenc, and Clairette. The vineyards are farmed organically with biodynamic practices. The average age of the vines is 30 years old and are at an altitude of 900-1200 feet above sea level. The wine is aged for 11 months on the lees (3/4 tank, 1/4 neutral oak)." -Importer
WINERY:
"Le Barroux is a small Provencal town located in the heart of the Vaucluse. Its twelfth century castle overhangs the stone-built village houses and picturesque alleys. In between the two famous mountains, the Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail, le Barroux is renowned as being an excellent tourist site, providing a magnificent view point. Nature surrounds the village, forests and fruit trees, intermingled with vines which paint a varying landscape of changing colors."
"The terraced vineyards, owned by the talented former pharmacist Philippe Gimel, extend over 16.5 ha of the hillside, at an elevation of between 900 to 1200 feet. It consists of 12.5 hectares of vines and 4 hectares of fruit trees and forest, on alternating terraces and slopes. The name Montagne translates to âmountainâ, in reference to Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail." -Importer
