92 Pts James Halliday - Australian Wine Companion

"Good colour; has that edge of refinement and elegance typical of good Eden Valley shiraz, the spicy edge to the black fruits no less typical; a medium-bodied wine driven by terroir."

91 Pts Josh Raynolds - Vinous Media

"Bright ruby. Strikingly fresh, pure red berry and floral aromas are complemented by nuances of smoky minerals and black olive; smells like a wine from the northern Rhone. Sharply focused raspberry and blackcurrant flavors are given spine by a nervy mineral quality and gain an exotic floral quality with air. The finish strongly echoes the mineral and floral notes and lingers with admirable intensity. For the money this is a steal."

90 Pts Jeb Dunnuck - The Rhone Report

"Beautifully done and well worth seeking out, the 2008 Torzi Matthews Shiraz 'Schist Rock' is aged for 13 months 1-year old French oak and comes the clay and schist soils of the Mount McKenzie vineyard. The wine has fantastic aromatics that jump from the glass, delivering bright raspberry and blackberry fruits that are complemented by notions of saddle leather, iron, blood, and touches of bramble and flowers. Every bit as good on the palate, with medium to full body, a mouth filling, rich texture, juicy acidity, and a broad, chewy finish that has solid persistence. The wine has good underlying structure and should age well for 6-8 years, but it's very approachable now. Solid value and this has real character."

Description:

WINE:
"Estate single vineyard wine grown in the chilly surrounds of Mount McKenzie in the Eden Valley. This label represents our rendition of Eden Valley Shiraz which is the non dried portion fruit that of Frost Dodger Shiraz and is aged in ex Frost Dodger barrels."

"Expect a characterful wine of high perfume floral notes, dark fruits and sweet spices that also flow onto the palate with vibrant fruits of freshly picked mulberries, rasberries, cherries with hints of espresso chocolate. The finish is persistent with fine grained tannins which leaves you satisfied." -Winery
