90-93 Pts Allen Meadows - Burghound |
"This is the most elegant of this impressive range of Gevrey 1ers, just edging out the Clos St. Jacques in this regard with a very fresh and ultra pure nose of spice and extract of red pinot fruit aromas that are in perfect keeping with the textured and intensely mineral suffused medium weight flavors that possess a beguiling mouth feel and excellent finishing detailed, supported by buried tannins and outstanding length. A study in finesse and elegance. Drink: 2014+. Sweet Spot; Outstanding." |
Description:
"Generally Gevrey Chambertin 'Petite Chapelle' is well coloured. Tannins are quite numerous, strong but finely flavoured. Less dynamic than Premier Cru of Combe de Lavaux that are on a slope, Gevrey Chambertin 'Petite Chapelle' is rather close to Grand Cru 'Mazoyeres' and 'Chapelle'. This wine will match quite strong and sophisticated dishes. It will perfectly match boeuf bourguignon, leg of lamb and most matured cheeses, but not blue cheese. This wine will certainly improve up to 8 to 20 years if kept in very good conditions of temperature and humidity and following the vintage." -Winery
VINEYARD:
"Gevrey Chambertin is the northernmost of the great communes of the Cote de Nuits. There are 26 Premiers Crus and 8 Grands Crus. Half of the Premiers Crus of Gevrey lie scattered around the perimeter of the Grands Crus; the other half occupy a steep, Southeast facing slope to the north, with calcareous clayish soils."
"The vineyard 'Petite Chapelle' is situated at the South of the village, close to Grands Crus 'Chapelle Chambertin' and 'Griotte Chambertin'. The soil is deep. The vineyards are very windy helping to produce good quality wines." -Winery
