Description:

2007 MARIMAR LA MASIA CHARDONNAY:
"There's a flowery note to this Chardonnay, which is dry, crisply acidic and strong in flavor in its youth. Brims with pineapple tart filling, Key lime pie, orange zest, honeysuckle, daffodil and smoky, vanilla-oak flavors, with a creamy, yeasty richness. Would benefit from greater restraint and subtlety, which may come after 3–5 years in the bottle. If you drink it now, give it a good decanting." 90 Points - Wine Enthusiast

VINEYARD:
"Named after the late patriarch of the Torres family, this organic vineyard is located in the Green Valley — the coolest, foggiest region of the Russian River, only ten miles from the Pacific. The European-style high density of over 2,000 vines per acre provides low yields and requires intensive labor; but the vines live longer and the grapes acquire greater concentration and finesse, more elegant aromas, and better balance than with the traditional low density." -Winemaker

VINIFICATION:
"The grapes were harvested September 9-20, then gently whole-cluster pressed and barrel fermented in premium French oak. The barrels were 45% new oak from the forest of Allier, coopered by Rousseau, Damy, and Dargaud & Jaegle. After undergoing 100% malolactic fermentation, the wine was aged on its lees for nine months and bottled in June 2008." -WInery

This wine was also scored 88 Points by the Wine Spectator

2007 MERRYVALE STARMONT MERLOT:
"Quite rich, this Merlot shows real Napa character in the ripe fruit and quality of the tannins. It brims with blackberry, currant, cherry and herb flavors, and feels well-structured and distinguished in the mouth. Best now." 88 Points - Wine Enthusiast

WINEMAKER"S NOTES:

"Our Merlot is blended from lots selected for their complexity of flavors and round tannins. The wine is handpicked and carefully sorted before undergoing extended maceration. We blend in a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot to provide additional aromatics and structure."

"The 2006 vintage has been described as a “growers” year by some vintners. After a late bud break due to an unseasonably cool spring, the Napa Valley experienced a record setting heat wave in July which allowed the grapes to catch up in ripening. An ideal mild weather pattern came in August and an “Indian Summer” followed into October allowing for slow and even ripening resulting in acids and sugars in perfect harmony."

"This Merlot displays notes of black cherry, bittersweet chocolate, roasted coffee and bramble. On the palate, the wine has a fruit forward entry with round chewy tannins. The finish is complex and lingering. Our favorite food pairings include cassoulet and sharp cheeses." -Winemaker
