90 Pts Jay Miller - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"The 2007 Finca Libertad is a blend of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc aged for 12 months in French oak. It sports an inviting nose of herbs, olives, tobacco, black currant and blackberry leading to an elegantly styled wine with savory flavors, impeccable balance, and a lengthy, seamless finish. It is likely to improve over the next 1-2 years but can be approached now." 90 Points - Jay Miller - Wine Advocate

"If you know Begegas, then you know they don’t make timid or particularly elegant wines. This blend of Cabernets Sauvigon and Franc along with Merlot is sturdy, savory, earthy and deep, which is all in the house style. The palate is big, blowsy and chewy, with roasted black fruit, earth, prune and chocolate flavors. Figgy and spicy on the finish, and ready to drink now." 90 Points - Wine Enthusiast

WINE:
"This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot (same combination as the Medoc) was produced with single vineyards grapes from Finca Libertad and captures all the elegance of these noble grapes combining them together in a wine of great fineness and complexity." -Winery

VINEYARD:
"The old property, planted with vines at the beginning of the last century by the Benegas - about three decades after Tiburcio Benegas founded "El Trapiche" in 1883 - is located on the banks of the Upper Mendoza River, at the south-east corner of Cruz de Piedra, Department of Maipú. It borders Luján de Cuyo and it is 20 kilometers away from the City of Mendoza, 800 meters above sea level."

"The men of the Benegas family did not act haphazardly. The choice of this land adjacent to the river was the result of careful consideration and experience. They chose it for the quality of its climate and soil. Their knowledge and wisdom were the outstanding features of those generations that gave the country reason enough to be proud of."

"Finca Libertad is part of the 249has which corresponds to the superior "lecho"river bed of Mendoza. This river starts at Blanco Encalada west and ends in Cruz de Piedra at east. This 249has are the addition of the planted smallholding (not all of them with vineyards) which forms part of the river bed and are at the same sea level and some times behind this level. Finca Libertad has 40 of this 249 has. (the 16%). In Mendoza 1ha of 1000 are such as the ones of Finca Libertad where the unique climate and soil conjugate. This replacement was done with the Engineer Hugo Albrieu from the Irrigation Department of the Province of Mendoza."

This wine was also scored 88 points by the International Wine Cellar and 78 points by the Wine Spectator.
