Description:
WINE:
"Pinot Blanc Reserve is made from 15-40 year old vineyards in Mittelbergheim. Pinot Blanc Reserve, produced at the estate since 1960, is made from grapes that were hand harvested at the peak of ripeness in early October. Following pressing, they are fermented in stainless steel with minimal intervention at the winer Light with plumy aroma, Pinot Blanc is fruity and fresh on the palate." -Importer
ESTATE:
"Albert Seltz is situated in the heart of Mittelbergheim in the Bas-Rhin of Alsace. Albert Seltz, the 14th generation owner and winemaker, took over from his father in 1980 when he was only 19 years old. At that time, Albert had already developed a sense of the potential of his estate and a passion for the variety of Sylvaner. Immediately, he reduced the production by two thirds, reduced the yields, and converted to strictly sustainable organic agricultural practices."
"In the cellar he practices minimal intervention, employing indigenous yeast and sur lie aging. In Alsace and beyond, Albert is known for his love of Sylvaner, so much so that he was instrumental in the national institute of Appellation dâOrigineâs decision to allow a Grand Cru Zotzenberg Sylvaner. Since the first vintage that will bear this distinction is 2005, today he calls the wine prior Sono Contento."
"The picturesque village of Mittelbergheim has a long and uniquely documented wine history. The Weinshchalgbuch records the quantity, quality and price of every vintage in the village since 785 A.D. The Seltz family are relative newcomers, only being able to record a mere 425 of their own harvests since the first in 1575. The company is run by Albert, who tends nearly 11 ha including vineyards in the Grand Cru area of Zotzenberg â a limestone basin that traps the heat from the sun and ripens the Sylvaner grapes to higher sugar levels than anywhere else in Alsace."
"The grapes are picked as late as possible and then fermented very slowly. His âReserve Personnelleâ and âGrand Cruâ wines are particularly recommended, capturing the very essence and the diversity of the region. Wines available include Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir Gewurztraminer, Riesling, Pinot Gris and Sylvaner." -Importer
