Description:
2007 PATRICK LESEC LES GALETS BLONDS CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE:
"The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Galets Blonds includes 90% Grenache from nearly 100-year-old vines blended with 10% Syrah from the renowned sector in the eastern part of the appellation known as Le Crau. This brilliant offering displays black raspberry, black cherry, floral, forest floor, underbrush, and cassis characteristics along with superb concentration, an opaque purple color, a gorgeously intense, multidimensional mouthfeel, and a sensational finish."
"I have long been a big fan of this cuvee, having bought and cellared vintages from the late nineties through 2001, and those wines took 3-4 years to develop, and are aging beautifully. The 2007 is potentially one of the best Lesec has yet made. It should drink well for 10-15 years." 94 Points - Robert Parker
"Bright purple. Ripe cherry and blackcurrant aromas are complemented by rooty sassafras and cola. Broad, palate-coating dark fruit flavors are framed by chewy tannins that fade into the fruit on the back half. A sexy floral note gains power with air and carries through the long, sappy, floral-tinged finish. This will be better with a few more years of bottle age." 91 Points - Josh Raynolds - International Wine Cellar
WINERY:
"Patrick Lesec established his negociant firm in 1993. Having found that customers in his restaurant in California were frequently disappointed with French wines, he began to seek out his own sources of supply, mostly from the Rhone Valley...Patrick Lesec Selections includes eight different estate-bottled red wines from Chateauneuf du Pape. Patrick works closely with 'non-interventionist' producers under contract to make top quality wines."
"Some of the vineyards are located in the lieux-dits La Crau, Valori, Le Cristia...and Palestor. All of these wines have a high content of old Grenache...and are treated with as little sulfur as possible. They are neither fined nor filtered." -Harry Karis, The Chateauneuf du Pape Wine Book
2007 MARIMAR LA MASIA CHARDONNAY:
"There's a flowery note to this Chardonnay, which is dry, crisply acidic and strong in flavor in its youth. Brims with pineapple tart filling, Key lime pie, orange zest, honeysuckle, daffodil and smoky, vanilla-oak flavors, with a creamy, yeasty richness. Would benefit from greater restraint and subtlety, which may come after 3â5 years in the bottle. If you drink it now, give it a good decanting." 90 Points - Wine Enthusiast
VINEYARD:
"Named after the late patriarch of the Torres family, this organic vineyard is located in the Green Valley â the coolest, foggiest region of the Russian River, only ten miles from the Pacific. The European-style high density of over 2,000 vines per acre provides low yields and requires intensive labor; but the vines live longer and the grapes acquire greater concentration and finesse, more elegant aromas, and better balance than with the traditional low density." -Winemaker
VINIFICATION:
"The grapes were harvested September 9-20, then gently whole-cluster pressed and barrel fermented in premium French oak. The barrels were 45% new oak from the forest of Allier, coopered by Rousseau, Damy, and Dargaud & Jaegle. After undergoing 100% malolactic fermentation, the wine was aged on its lees for nine months and bottled in June 2008." -WInery
