Description:
2006 Orma Orma:
"Tobacco, chocolate, currant and licorice aromas follow through to a full body, with very refined tannins and a long, caressing finish. Lovely and polished. Delicate in many ways. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Best after 2012. 1,585 cases made." -93 Points - Wine Spectator
"The 2006 Orma is a dark, hulking beauty endowed with masses of dark fruit, earthiness, licorice, and tar. In this vintage the wine is round and opulent, with just enough density to balance the French oak tannins. The wine offers outstanding depth and a long, intense finish. This super-ripe, intense red is a terrific effort from proprietor Antonio Moretti. Orma is 40% Cabernet Franc, 40% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine spent 14 months in French oak barrels (60% new) prior to being bottled. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2016. Orma is owned by Antonio Moretti of Sette Ponti. The wines at this Maremma estate continue to show improvement." - 90 Points - Antonio Galloni - Wine Advocate
"(A blend of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and merlot) Good full ruby-red. Ripe dark plum, coffee, earth and spice aromas are lifted by a pretty floral note. Fat, supple and full, with impressive mid-palate breadth; turns a bit muscular in the middle, with black pepper and spice notes adding complexity to the coffee and black fruit flavors. Finishes with good length and a note of smoked meat. A bit less soft and ripe than the '07, but these two wines are at the same quality level. (Empson U.S.A. Alexandria VA) 90 points" -90 Points - Ian Dagata - International Wine Cellar
2006 KING ESTATE DOMAINE PINOT NOIR:
"This is velvety, showing beautifully ripe flavors that focus into a lovely beam of blackberry and red plum fruit, nicely defined and lingering effortlessly on the deftly balanced finish. Drink now through 2014. 982 cases made." -91 points Wine Spectator
"The Domaine bottling from King Estate is the label with all the signatures on it; itâs a complex blend of clones and blocks from the expansive, organically farmed estate vineyard. Fragrances suggest a pleasing mix of flowers and berries, and the fruit-driven flavors follow in kind. Along with the potent cherry/berry fruit comes the classic Oregon herb/spice underpinning, resinous and pungent. The balance is right to suggest medium-term aging potential, though the acids have a little unresolved chalkiness." -90 points Wine Enthusiast
WINE:
"This wine was held in a 100% stainless steel, temperature controlled tank fermentation in open top fermenters. Punch downs occurred two to three times per day. Aged for 16 months in French oak barrels (53% new, 33% 1 year, 14% 2 year). On the nose, there are aromas of cherry, floral, currant, cranberry and dried rose petals. Sweet entry with flavors of cherry, vanilla, caramel and pepper spice on exit." -Winery
VINTAGE:
"2006 can be characterized as an early vintage. Warm to hot temperatures during bloom provided optimum condition for pollination and fruit set. Warmer than average summer temperatures coupled with ample nutrients and soil hydration allowed the vines to photosynthesize at an excellent rate. There were a few spikes of hot weather during the third week of June, the third week of July, the middle of August, and the early part of September. Harvest at King Estate began on September 27th and was over by October 11th, the previous year October 11th marked the beginning of harvest." -Winery
2006 CHATEAU SANSONNET:
"Chateau Sansonnet is located at the east of Saint Emilion, on the highest point of the plateau, neighbouring great classified wines. Rich of history, the property belonged in the 19th century to the Duke Decazes, Prime Minister of Louis XVIII. The d'Aulan family took it over in 1999. The exceptional terroir is composed of an argilo-limestone soil, on a rocky subsoil. Merlot and Cabernet Franc complement each other beautifully to give elegant, attractive and classy wines. The 7 hectares vineyard and the wine cellars have been restored. Forgotten for a moment, Sansonnet takes again today its legitimate place among the high-class wines of Saint-Emilion." -Importer
This wine scored 87 points in the Wine Spectator, 86 points in the International Wine Cellar, and 84 points by Robert Parker.
