92 Pts Antonio Galloni - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate |
"The 2005 Barbaresco Serraboella is an intense wine bursting with primary dark fruit and sweet toasted oak. The tannins remain fairly imposing, but the fruit is also fresh, suggesting the wine will age gracefully. This imposing Serraboella is impressive for its breadth and concentration. The wine was aged in a combination of 20-hectoliter casks and smaller French oak barrels. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022." -92 points Wine Advocate |
Description:
"The Fratelli Cigliuti winery is situated on the Serraboella hill, 350 metres above sea level, overlooking the village of Neive, in the Langhe region of Piemonte, N.W. Italy. Neive is one of the three villages responsible for producing Barbaresco from the Nebbiolo grape. The territory of Langhe is characterised by hills, steep slopes and a predominantly calcareous clay soil. The climate is mainly continental, with important differences in microclimate depending on the site. This terroir brings minerality, complexity, personality and longevity to the wines. The Cigliuti family tend the vineyards themselves, by hand, and in a way which respects the environment. Yields are kept low in order to harvest the finest fruit."
"The vineyards face the southwest and the vines have an average age of 30 years old. Harvest occurs in September. Fermentation is done in stainless steel tanks and one part of the wine is aged in 2000 Liter Slavonian oak casks and another part in barriques and tonneaux. This wine has the possibility to age for 20-25 years. Pair this with red meat, game and aged cheeses." -Winery
