"This Barossa Shiraz eschews the superripe character found in many from the region in favor of a more balanced, Rhone-ish approach. There`s a base of raspberry and vanilla sweetness, but also lots of herbal and spice complexity - notably cracked pepper and black olives. WINE:
"The grapes were grown on our Rowland Flat Vineyard which adjoins the North Para River in the Barossa Valley. The 2006 vintage was kind to us, despite the drought conditions. This wine completed fermentation in new and two year old seasoned American oak. The resultant wine has a very deep purple color, with a black heart. The bouquet is rich and powerful, with defined aromas of currants, plums, and liquorish, enhanced by supple oak and hints of tar and earth."

"The palate is mouth filling, displaying luscious flavors of chocolate, liquorish, and, black fruits. It has all of the spice and concentration of a true Barossa Shiraz, with powerful fruit, softening tannins, and a dense middle palate that leads into a long, lingering finish." -Winery

VITICULTURE:
The vines were planted in 1991 on alluvial loam which is well drained. The vines are pruned hard in the winter, back to approx. 20 buds per vine. The vines are mechanically pruned and harvested." -Winemaker

VINIFICATION:
"The grapes were harvested at 16 be and fermented in open top ferment tanks. The wine was fermented on skins for 12 days. It completed its fermentation in seasoned oak barrels. After racking, the wine was returned to barrel where it remained for 12 months before bottling." -Winery
