Château Fontanes is within the boundaries of the Pic St-Loup appellation but most of their wines are labeled as "Vin de France" because many of the grapes they grow fall outside of the constraints set for the A.O.C. cru status. One of these grapes is the unique and rarely grown (especially in the Languedoc) Aleatico.
Aleatico is mostly grown in Italy and is commonly found in desert wines, but this dry style from Château Fontanes is unique and absolutely delicious! The grapes are hand harvested and then undergo natural carbonic maceration for 8 whole days in foudre. The wine is then aged in cement tank for 6 to 8 months resulting in a fruit forward but rich style of wine bursting with intensity.
"Hand-harvested 10 year old Aleatico. Natural carbonic maceration for 8 days in conical foudre. Aged in cement tank for 6 to 8 months, neither filtered nor fined."- Importer
