"A wealth of dried cherry & flower aromas follow through to a full body, fine tannins & a raspberry & cherry aftertaste. A fruity yet subtle red. A beauty. Fantastic for the vintage. Drinkable but so much better in 2020".
93 Pts Ian Dagata - Vinous Media
"Bright deep red. The pure, enticing nose hints at raspberry, gunflint, licorice, and minerals. Dense but juicy, this boasts terrific energy and an enticing mineral overlay to its bright, precise red berry and floral flavors. Outstanding focus and lift here, but this will need time to expand. Finishes with building but subtle concentration and great length. Knockout stuff."
From an ultra-traditional producer, this lands you a classical style Brunello at a perfectly situated price point. Fattoria la Lecciaia has accolades from some of the best critics to back it up and comes from a vintage that will be talked about for decades in Brunello di Montalcino: 2013.
2013 came on a stream of great vintages for Brunello but differed and in many ways surpassed its predecessors.
The vintage was cool overall with plenty of rainfall. The actual harvest was significantly pushed back into October. The weather combined to produce grapes that retained freshness, complexity and vibrancy, which clearly translated into the wines from this classic vintage. The Brunellos from 2013 are generally more medium-bodied with incredibly lifted aromatics and finessed secondary notes. Many of these will easily reward those who cellar them in the medium to long term.
Lecciaia's wine embodies these qualities well but will also give significant immediate pleasure!
