92 Pts Wine & Spirits

"This wine’s flavors of lemon and chalk feel electric, buzzing with fragrance, the green fruit notes taking on lovely fullness in a generously warm vintage while sustaining a fresh profile from beginning to end."

91 Pts Wine Spectator

"A distinctive aroma of brine and oyster signals this open, rangy white. Shows a good supporting structure, while the mouthwatering acidity drives the lingering finish. Drink now through 2022. 420 cases imported. -BS"

Description:

"Wonderfully delicate wine with yellow fruit aromas. Good structure and balance. Minerality expressed by gunflint notes that reveal the influence of the terroir.

The grapes are grown on mostly South/Southwest facing slopes, on Kimmeridgian limestone (composed of Exogyra virgula oyster fossils).

From Burgundy Report: 'A blend of Lignorelles and Beines. Usually more fruit from Lignorelles, structure and minerality comes more from Beines...Tasty wine and with good length too...'

A native of Touraine, Jean-Claude Courtault arrived at Lignorelles in 1974 to work as Vineyard Manager for one of the village's wine estates. In 1984, JC Courtault seized the chance to buy 1.5 hectares of 4 year old vines in the Chablis area. Next, he rented a plot of land also in the Chablis appellation, which he then planted with the help of his wife, Marie-Chantal. And so the Estate Jean-Claude Courtault was born. Ever since, JC has been perfecting his craft which he now shares with his daughter Stéphanie and her husband Vincent Michelet. The Domaine now has 20 hectares and produces Petit Chablis, Chablis, Chablis Premier Cru, Chablis Grand Cru. " - Importer
