92 Pts Monica Larner - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"The 2011 Aglianico del Vulture Arberesko is a very beautiful expression that matches the brawn of the Aglianico grape against the softness of the hot vintage. Warm tones of spice, leather and tobacco do a great job of filling in the background and rounding off any sharp edges. Rich but velvety tannins give the wine a determined sense of power and persistency. The wine could be consumed in the near-term, but it can also hold up to ten more years."

What you need to know about this wine:
Aglianico is a grape that some may call "The Barolo of the South." Why is that?

Aglianico is a full bodied wine that offers up massive flavor and structure. They grape has plenty of tannin while holding a high level acidity to allow the wines to age for a very long period of time. Just like a Barolo, these wines need some time to open up and breathe.
