"The wine is intensely aromatic on the nose showing passion fruit, nectarine, lime zest and subtle musky complexity. It is punchy and lively on the palate, and delivers excellent varietal purity and vibrancy, wonderfully complemented by fine texture and bright acidity. An instantly appealing sauvignon filled with delicious flavours." |
90 Pts Wine Spectator |
" Complex, with toasted hay and honeysuckle notes that mingle with a whiff of smoke up front, giving way to succulent apricot, dried pineapple and tangerine flavors. Juicy and refreshing. Drink now. 10,000 cases made. " |
Description:
We first noticed this winery when the Wine Spectator featured the wine in an article on winespectator.com with the title "12 New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs to Beat the Winter Blues". This was back in February of this year.
They remarked, "One of the top scorers here is from Seifried, a winery located in the lesser-known Nelson appellation on the northern tip of the South Island, just west of Marlborough. The region has the highest sunshine hours in all of New Zealand. Farther inland, mountain ranges to the east, south and west provide shelter for the valleys and benchlands, while the northern areas benefit from a more maritime climate. The summers are warm and relatively dry and the nights cool."
Literally the next month, while at a trade show in Germany, we spotted it. The table was packed where the wine was being poured and by the time we got to the front to taste it ... we could see why. Our purchase order was cut moments later!
If you have been drinking Kim Crawford or Cloudy Bay ... wait until you taste this!! Dollar for dollar, this is one of the best New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc efforts we have tasted so far this year!
"Sauvignon Blanc grown in Nelson is delicious and fresh with crisp herbaceous aromas and passionfruit characters. Family owned Seifried (pronounced Sigh-freed) Estate vineyards were first born to establish in the sunniest province in New Zealand in 1973." -Winery.
