Cellar Selection
"Smoky, toasty oak aromas are dominant on a black-fruit bouquet that also shows graphite. This is saturated and tight, with complexity and outright deliciousness of savory, meaty, spicy blackberry flavors. Toast, cured beef and cocoa flavors prove that there's more to this than just heft and oak. Best from 2019 through 2032. -MS"

92 Pts Josh Raynolds - Vinous Media

"Opaque ruby. Ripe dark berries, vanilla and candied flowers on the pungent nose, with a minerally quality adding lift. Spicy and expansive on the palate, offering intense cherry and raspberry liqueur flavors and a hint of mocha. Becomes deeper and more broad with air and finishes with velvety tannins and a repeating floral pastille note that lingers with strong tenacity."

92 Pts Wine Spectator

"Firm and focused, this solid red delivers black cherry, tobacco and cola flavors over firm tannins, with balsamic acidity and a spicy finish. Not a showy wine, but fresh and harmonious. Drink now through 2022. 8,500 cases made. –TM "

91 Pts James Suckling - Jamessuckling.com

"Extremely aromatic and beautiful with currants, raspberries, and plums. Hints of flowers too. Full body, firm and silky tannins, and a fresh and bright finish. Made from old vines of 85% tempranillo and 15% other varieties. Drink or hold."

90 Pts Luis Gutierrez - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"Smoky bacon and barbecued meat aromas are quite prominent in the 2009 Reserva Selección de la Familia. It is slightly more modern and oaky than the regular Reserva offering a sinewy palate where I found a ton of grainy tannins that would require time in bottle and/or powerful food, as the fruit might dry out before the tannins get balanced. Only time will tell."

Description:

"Deep red cherry color. Intense and very complex on the nose, with aromas of ripe black fruit and creamy notes reinforced by the type of barrel toast. Spice and earthy nuances mixed with liquor notes. It is ample on the palate, with plenty of volume, holding well in the mid palate and polished. Powerful and vivid showing licorice and bitter chocolate notes.

The “family reserve” from one of Rioja Alavesa’s most enduring family-run wineries. Wines destined to be the Reserva de la Familia label are made from a selection of grapes from old vines, those which combine a series of characteristics such as good orientation and exposure to the sun, and a poor soil which ensures low yields." - Importer
