96 Pts James Suckling - Jamessuckling.com

This the greatest Pavillon Rouge ever made. Aromas of flowers, smoke, currants and raspberries follow through to a full body, with super silky tannins and a long, long finish. This is balanced and refined with wonderful depth. Hard to believe it's a second wine. Better after 2018.

94 Pts Robert Parker - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The second wine, the 2010 Pavillon Rouge (essentially two-thirds Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest mostly Merlot with small quantities and Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc) looks to be a wine to age for 20 or more years, but it is quite drinkable already. Soft, supple and luscious, with oodles of blue and black fruits, the floral character one expects, and not a trace of herbaceousness, oak or aggressiveness, this is a beautiful, round, generous wine to drink over the next 18-20 years.

94 Pts Wine Spectator

This is lovely, with a powerful backdrop of graphite and tar, harnessed by flavors of velvety plum, steeped fig and black currant preserves. The long incense- and black tea-filled finish completes the seduction. Refined, defined and poised. Best from 2014 through 2025.

Description:

"Just like in 2009, grapes were harvested between the 23rd of September and the 15th of October. The entire vineyard benefited from excellent weather conditions, yet not all plots seem to have capitalized on this. The Merlot and the Cabernet planted in the most clayey soils reached high alcohol levels, which tended to affect their finesse rather than their balance. We blended them in the third wine, which is both larger in volume (24% of the crop) and better than it has ever been.

"It is the first time that the Pavillon Rouge, which made up 38% of the crop, accounts for the same proportion as the first wine. This selection reflects the even higher standards we have set for Pavillon Rouge. It is indeed no longer a second wine but rather a different blend of the first one, with truly comparable tannic power.

"66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot: while these are practically the same proportions as in 2009, the quality is quite possibly superior. Never before has Pavillon Rouge come so close to Chateau Margaux." (April 2011) Winery
