95 Pts Antonio Galloni - Vinous

"The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is a gorgeous, striking wine. Sweet macerated cherries, tobacco, licorice, spice and mint are all laced together in a super-expressive, resonant Brunello endowed with real class. Open-knit and seductive, the 2011 will drink well with minimal cellaring. This is an especially delicate, sensual Brunello that speaks to the finesse that is possible on the northern side of Montalcino, and a terrific example of the year at its very best. With time in the glass, the 2011 starts to shut down, which may be a very good sign of its potential longevity. In any event, the 2011 Brunello is a winner. Proprietor Francesco Ripaccioli gave the 2011 a bit less time in oak than is customary. Production was just 28,000 bottles as opposed to the 50,000 bottles that were produced between the straight Brunello and Riserva in 2010 (there is no Riserva in 2011.)"

Description:

"Loving and passionate connoisseur of the land and its products, in 1962 Prime Pacenti founded the Azienda Agricola Canalicchio di Sopra. Located in the north side of Montalcino and crossed the tourist route of the Val d'Orcia, the company covers approximately 60 ha of which 15 are vineyards and olive groves 2.

Here they live three generations that are synergistically involved in the production of quality wines: his grandfather, Prime Pacenti, the company he founded and directed it until the '90s as well as participating actively in the social life of the Consortium Brunello di Montalcino; that of the father, Pier Luigi Ripaccioli, who together with his grandfather undertook a qualitative growth path by offering a careful and meticulous work; the grandchildren, Simonetta, Marco and Francesco which since 2001 have given way in managing the company? s introducing new ideas and new technologies always in the respect of methods and old customs.

The vineyards are located in two of the areas of high di Montalcino wine vocation: Canalicchio di Sopra and Le enjoys Montosoli. The different exposures and geological differences of the land give rise to fruits of different Sangiovese where balance and power compensate in the cellar through patient work that always seeks the most from the combination of tradition and innovation." - Winery
