"With a nose of ripe black fruit, intense fruitiness in a way that reminded me of a just-fermented vintage Port, the 2014 Pena El Cato Garnacha Vinas Viejas also has a surprisingly dark purple color which is quite unbelievable for a Garnacha. 2014 was a warm year making for an early harvest, plus these grapes come from a very old vineyard that certainly provides concentrated, juicy and dense wines with plenty of grainy tannins and chalky minerality that sticks to your teeth. The wine fermented and aged in new 500-liter French oak barrels where it staged for four months and it's was bottled without malolactic. Unusual, ripe, hedonistic and dense. 1,200 bottles.

Juan Carlos Sancha was one of the first to work with the "new" grapes varieties, as he was part of the investigation."
