More about the wines in this Brunello Super Set:
2010 Il Marroneto Brunello Di Montalcino
Il Marroneto is a small producer in the northern part of Montalcino. The estate was started by Giuseppe Mori in the mid-1970s and is now run by Giuseppe's son Alessandro. The estate is in good hands, and the wines are stellar, especially from a vintage as amazing as 2010. This wine blew us away, and the critics, too, which topped out with a 97 point rating from Wine Enthusiast and two 95 point scores from Wine Advocate and Antonio Galloni.
"Multifaceted fragrances suggest violet, rose, red berry, baking spice, savory herb and a balsamic note. Elegant with great intensity, the radiant palate delivers juicy wild cherry, crushed berry, cinnamon and a note of star anise alongside a backbone of assertive, fine-grained tannins and bright acidity. Itâs a gorgeous wine with breeding and class that needs time to bloom fully. Drink 2020-2035." - 97 Points Wine Enthusiast
2010 Mate Brunello Di Montalcino
Mate began as a passion play in 1990 when Ferenc Mate and his wife Candace, left New York City and bought an ancient, abandoned farm neighboring world-renowned wine makers Angelo Gaja and Gianfranco Soldera. Being perfectionists, the Mates performed a "museum quality" restoration of the friary, then hired Gaja's agronomist and France's Pierre Guillaume to select the best varietals and clones in planting their four vineyards of wonderfully varied exposition, elevation and soil composition.
"A red that delivers so much rose bush, dried meat, strawberry and sea salt character. It's full body, with firm and silky tannins and a long and intense finish. High toned Brunello. Better in 2017" - 94 Points James Suckling
2011 Capanne Ricci Brunello Di Montalcino
The 2011 Capanne Ricci is from a property that has been earning outstanding praise vintage after vintage and is available at a price most Brunello drinkers would jump at. It's our first offering from the brand new 2011 vintage in Montalcino, and is a vintage that will be popular for one big reason:
"The 2011 Brunello di Montalcinos are for current drinking." - James Suckling
"Forest floor, tilled earth, truffle, ripe berry, thyme and a whiff of game are some of the aromas you'll find on this full-bodied red. The concentrated palate delivers fleshy black cherry, raspberry jam, cinnamon, clove and a hint of anise. Densely packed, velvety tannins leave a firm, polished finish. Drink 2019â2026." - 93 Points Wine Enthusiast
