Description:
Named after a small parcel of vines called Carboniére, translates to âan area of burning charcoal," Domaine de la Charbonniere was founded in 1912 by Eugene Maret, and is now run by his grandson, Michael Maret, and Michaelâs daughters. Charbonniere has 17.5 hectares of vines in Chateauneuf du Pape, with the best parcels being in the famed La Crau section, and 9.7 hectares of vines in Vacqueyras and Cotes du Rhone.
Charbonniere Cuvee Mourre Des Perdrix Chateauneuf Du Pape is one of the wineryâs best blends and consists of 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and 15% Mourvedre from vines ranging from 30 to 50 years old. The wine is then aged in foudres (large wooden vats) and oak barrels for 12 to 18 months. The winery only makes about 650 cases per year!
