"(80% sangiovese and 20% merlot): Red-ruby. Smoke and caramel nuances complicate bright red berries, sweet spices and tobacco on the nose. Moderately dense and sweet, with very good intensity to the bright flavors of dark berries, coffee and flowers. Still a bit tight today, with coffee and pepper elements carrying through to the firm finish. This strikes me as being much better than some recent vintages of this wine: though the merlot presence is still significant, it's much more successfully integrated with the sangiovese here."
