"The 2012 Calcareo Bonarda is dark-colored, opaque, almost black, with black fruit, and smoked peat notes. It is an austere, serious Bonarda (a variety that now is going to be renamed Bonarda Argentina, because it is Charbono, not the Italian Bonarda) that is quite concentrated, structured and austere, coming from cold, almost deserted soils which have a big influence on the wine. It needs a little bit of time in bottle to polish the tannins. Drink 2015-2020. " Reviewed April 2014

"This hand harvested ,100% Bonarda is from a single vineyard close to 5000ft in elevation in a sub-region of the Uco Valley called Gualtallary. The wine shows rich raspberry compote, baking spices, chalk, and caraway that lead to a round mouth feel and large tannin structure. The wine has a long finish and will age well."
