Ripe and aromatic, this encapsulates the Viognier so well. Classic apricot flavors are enhanced by a smoky, wood-aging character, rich almonds and warm acidity. It's a well-composed wine, now ready to drink. Roger Voss - 12/01/2014 |

"The 2011 Viognier Madrigal was aged in a mixture of tank (55-60%) and new 500-liter French oak barrels (40-45%) for 6 months, a minor modification of the original information that I got. It comes in at 13.5% alcohol. As I said the first time around, this is a lovely vintage, graceful, fresh and lively, and perfectly balanced. This needed a little extra time in bottle. It is now a Madrigal that puts it all together, a rival to the 2008 for "Best of Vertical," but a bit less evolved. It may not be the biggest, and as yet it is not the most complex, but the combination of acidity, fruit and oak balance each other out beautifully. In the short time since I first saw it, it has absorbed the oak brilliantly, too. The lemon-like notes have gone, too, as the wine pulls itself together. Overall, it seems lifted, perfectly balanced and impressive. The longer I had it open, the more I liked it. The biggest change apparent now, from my first review, is its ageworthiness. I was far too stingy the first time around, and there I can only say mea culpa. This looks now like something that is just beginning its useful life, and should age well and easily. I always tend to the conservative -- we'll see what happens when we get there. There were 7,000 bottles produced. Drink now-2021." Reviewed April 2014. |
Description:
Tasting Notes: The nose and palate bear hallmark notes of peach and white flowers. Though seemingly delicate, this wine has a solid structure and lingering finish.
Food Pairing: An excellent match to poultry and game, as well as a variety of cheeses." - Distributor's Notes
