90 Pts Neal Martin - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate |
The 2010 Winemaker's Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon is a winery selection of the finest barrels. It has dusty blackberry and boysenberry fruit on the nose laced with pine and a touch of licorice. The palate is juicy and rounded on the entry with supple blackberry and blueberry fruit. There is good backbone towards the finish that is linear and focused, though tightly wound and deserving of a couple of years in bottle. Drink 2014-2020. |
Description:
Without question, any California Cabernet fan will flat out flip over this simply stunning buy ... except it's not from California. Fans of Robert Parker's the Wine Advocate will note that this wine scored 90 Points from Neal Martin as well.

Terroir matters, and in Chile's Limari Valley, Tamari leads the charge!
Chile's newest wine region, located 600km north of Santiago has become one of the most innovative and exciting places on the entire Pacific coastline for Cabernet Sauvignon. This sub-region's proximity to the ocean is a BIG deal: dry weather, bright sun and clear skies make the kinds of Cab that POP, brightly fruit flavored and palate-drenching in purity and smoothness. Wow.
Tamaya established itself very early in the history of this region, enjoying damn-near perfect growing conditions between the Pacific Ocean and the desert-like conditions at the foot of the Andes Mountains.
Artisanally made, and it shows...
Painstaking care was taken to hand harvest this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon in late April/early May (remember we are in the southern hemisphere) wherein grapes were destemmed and gently pressed to maximize fruit freshness. Even more exciting was the use of French Oak barrique to add incredible depth and elegant complexity, accenting the wine's brilliant flavors, redolent with wild berries, blackberries, fresh spice and crackling minerality. Wow!
And this winery's got some serious accolades... from everyone!!!
Tamaya's Cabernet Sauvignon hails from a winery whose list of awards from many of the world's best critics extends as far out as the eye can see. The winery has repeatedly been singled out as one of the region's greatest assets, a shining star of sorts, with 90+ point scores in the Wine Spectator, the Wine Advocate, and the Penin Guide, just to name a few. It should also go without saying that they've filled trophy cases with medals earned from International Wine Competitions around the world. This particular vintage hit 90 Points in the Wine Advocate and 92 Points in Guia Descorchados 2013!
Most recently, Neal Martin of The Wine Advocate raved about the 2010 Winemaker's Gran Reserva's laser beam focus, which wasn't surprising considering this wine represented a cuvee (or blend) from both the best vineyard parcels and the winemakerâs finest barrels. Why does this matter? Because frankly put, location AND barrels matter, and the planet's greatest icon brands are all about the blend.
