Bodegas Sameiras
The primary white grape in the D.O. Ribeiro used to be Palomino, now principally used in Spanish Sherry. However, too neutral for the flavorful, mineral fresh white this area produces, Palomino has been slowly replaced with varieties like Albarino (Alvarinho) Godello (Verdelho), Loureira, Treixadura, and Torrontes. Known to produce more exciting and aromatics wines, these grapes produce wines somewhat similar to the fresh, crisp wines from Portugal's D.O.C. Vinho Verde but with more flavors, intensity and length.
A quantity production controlled per vine, an optimum harvesting moment, and an extreme care in winemaking, allows the wine from Sameiras to have a standard quality year after year.
About the Winemaker - Antonio Cajide
Antonio Cajide was born in a family that has been winegrowers for several generations. In 1999, he decided to convert the old family winery into a new modern facility but kept traditional winemaking and vinification especially in the vineyards. Bodegas Sameiras is located in the D.O. Ribeiro in the region of Galicia, northwestern part of Spain and inland to the south east of D.O. Rias Baixas.
