"Rich and spicy, this 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon from 10 acres is generous and ripe, with warm tannins and a fruity, red berry character. This blend has attractive acidity and spicy flavors from the combination of wood and stainless-steel aging. This is only the second vintage from enologist Jean-Remi Larrat's own property. It is worth aging, so drink from 2017." -RV, 12/31/2014 |
Description:
This wine proves it.
Think about how many times you find yourself browsing through a selection of California red blends in the $10-$20 price range. Searching over and over again for something new to try. Something that will really deliver big time power, finesse, elegance, but for under $20. It's difficult to do that when searching domestic Merlot and Cabernet.
But this little producer coming from a lesser-known corner of Bordeaux is the perfect substitute.
New Blood / Old Soil
Chateau Chatard is a relative newcomer in Bordeaux. Founded in 2008, the Chateau Chatard is all about making the best wine possible for the money. It really shows here. Chatard is a small 7 hectares in the town of Saint Germain de Grave. This is the second vintage this estate has produced and already, the quality here very evident.
Listen here as we got in touch with the winemaker, Larrat Jean-Remi, to learn more about this tiny, family producer.
