About Pena El Gato
"Opaque reddish purple colour. Aromas of smoke, graphite, lavender, a hint of balsamic, and ripe black cherries inform the nose of this full-bodied, dense, layered Garnacha. Ideally wine to accompany red roast meats, smoked meat, cheese and mushrooms."
This wine comes from 95-year-old Garnacha vines on high, south-facing slopes and terraces on a half hectare of land inherited by Juan Carlos Sancha from his grandfather. This very special vineyard, which yields 2,857 kg of grapes per hectare, has a small production, 1200 bottles of wine.
2010 Vintage: Was rated as an Excellent year by the Control Board of the Rioja Designation of Origin (D.O.Ca.Rioja). It was a year of normal rainfall, with a very cold winter. Some rainfall arrived in June, and the end of summer was, in general, dry and sunny. During winter, there was a lot of heavy snowfall which left a good reservoir of water in the subsoil for growth. A warm, dry spring was excellent for the growth and development of the buds. There was very little rainfall throughout the summer resulting in perfect development of the grapes and the fruit set was better than in earlier vintages ."

Bodegas Juan Carlos Sancha is a winery located in Rioja Alta, one of the best-known wine-producing regions of Spain. This winery, operated in the town of Baños de RÃo TobÃa (Rioja Alta) by Juan Carlos Sancha, a professor of enology at the University of La Rioja, is situated on five hectares of land along the border of D.O.Ca. Rioja, and in the coldest zone of this wine denomination.
