94 Pts James Suckling - Jamessuckling.com

"Intense aromas of lemon peel, lemon curd and licorice. Lightly tropical. Full body with lively acidity and wonderful intensity and liveliness. So much citrus zest. Tastes of the sea, too. A stunning wine. Argiolas makes top whites as well as reds in Sardinia."

Description:

"A small vineyard set between olive groves, a brackish marsh and a small Romanesque church at Serdiana, to the rear of the Gulf of Cagliari. This is the place we have chosen to create a new white wine from an ancient grape variety - Nasco, cultivated in Sardinia for thousands of years, carried here by the Phoenician mariners. It is traditionally used to obtain a sweet wine. We decided to make a dry wine out of it, by harvesting the grape one month earlier. We matured the wine on its noble lees and in small French barriques. We blended it with just a touch of Vermentino. Iselis white was born thus. It is straw yellow in colour, with a scent of yellow flowers and fruit, an ample, round taste, welcoming and not easily forgotten. It matches excellently with the best balanced dishes of Sardinian tradition - both surf and turf, from starters to fish, from white meat dishes to medium matured cheeses." --Winery

Wine:
"Made from 85% Nasco and 15% Vermentino, the hand-harvested grapes are fermented in a combination of stainless steel tanks and barrels before being aged in stainless steel tanks for 5 to 6 months. Nasco is typically associated with sweeter-style dessert wines due to its perfumed and floral character, and these attributes are still present in this dry, white wine." - Importer

Tasting Notes:
"Brilliant gold in color, white wine shows expressive aromas of jasmine, white peach, honesuckle, and melon. On the palate, it is exotic and rich, with a full-bodied, creamy texture and white pepper spice in the finish." - Importer

Winery:
"Giacomo Tachis, father of prestigious Italian wines such as Sassicaia, Tignanello, and Solaia, has been instrumental in placing Argiolas on the quality map. Like the Argiolas family, Tachis has a true passion for the island’s native varieties. In 2004, the Wine Advocate praised Argiolas for producing wines essential to those who wish to discover the essence of Sardinia wines and viticulture.

Visitors have long been attracted to Sardinia’s wild beauty and natural energy, characterized in its sculpted red granite rocks and rugged cliffs, unspoiled beaches and fascinating stone relics. Located amid this breathtaking landscape, just north of Cagliari, is the Argiolas estate, widely known for its crisp, refreshing white wines and complex reds

The Argiolas family has worked diligently to become the leader in Sardinian oenology and insists on using mainly native Sardinian vines: Nuragus and Vermentino for white wines, and Cannonau, Monica, Carignano and Bovale Sardo for reds." - Importer
