"The dark ruby/plum-hued 2011 Zinfandel Rocky Knoll (15.3% alcohol) reveals more meaty, charcuterie notes along with more minerality, sweet, briery, black currant and black cherry fruit, and a layered finish with slightly more acidity than its siblings. The result is a brilliant Zinfandel to drink over the next 5-7 years. This Healdsburg winery on Limerick Lane broke into the wine scene many years ago, only to go through a succession of tragic events which need no further elaboration. In any event, the winery basically stopped producing wine, but recently this 30-acre estate was taken over by the family that owns the Marietta Winery in Alexander Valley, and I believe these are the first releases from Limerick Lane Cellars in many years. What is so remarkable is not only the quality of the following wines, but also that they emerged from 2011, a vintage notoriously poor for Zinfandel. You would never know that when tasting these wines. This winery looks set for a terrific resurrection." |
92 Pts Wine Spectator |
"Impressively focused and structured, balancing ripe fruit and acidity with blueberry and spicy cinnamon aromas, with layered boysenberry, licorice and mineral flavors. The tannins ease in on the finish. Drink now through 2020. 190 cases made." |
Description:
In the mid 70âs, the estate was sold to the Collins family. Brothers Mike and Tom Collins brought incredible passion and enthusiasm to the property selling the grapes as vineyard designates to several well known local wineries including De Loach, Chateau Souverain, Ravenswood, Davis Bynum and Gary Farrell.
The quality of the wines and reputation of the iconic Collins Vineyard quickly established Limerick Lane as a premier site for growing Zinfandel and Rhone varieties in Sonoma County.
In 1986, the first estate wines were produced under the Limerick Lane label. The subsequent quality of the wines produced solidified Limerick Laneâs reputation as one of Sonoma Countyâs premier producers as well." - Winery
