"This is a unique and whimsical blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre and Petite Verdot... A very pretty nose with exotic spices and wild floral highlights, minty notes a very cool year and a host of berry fruit on the nose. Black raspberry, cherry and currant berry fruit on the tongue with a host of that spice and floral nuance from the nose coming through on the finish along with a firm hand of acidity holding things together.

The 2011 Buty Winery Beast Red is a Cabernet Sauvignon-based cuvee, most of which hailed from one single vineyard, Phinny Hill in the Horse Heaven Hills subregion of Washington's famed Columbia Valley! Remarkable as much for the fact that it was one of the last cuvees made by celebrated winemaker Caleb Foster, the 2011 Buty 'Beast' is a bit of a misnomer, whose powerful aromatics and flavors are more poignant and refined than wild and beastly, a true beauty from a gorgeous 'European-like' vintage.
"Our 2011 Wildebeest was blended from 53% Cabernet sauvignon, 29% Syrah, 11% Mourvedre, 4% Grenache and 3% Cabernet Franc, with every variety from each vineyard fermented and aged separately in the finest French oak for 22 months. In order to allow the Wildebeest to display its native fruit and spice character, the barrels were generally older (from two to five years), with 20% aged in larger-format puncheons. Overall, the new oak is 5%, and the alcohol content is 13.5%. "
