91 Pts Josh Raynolds - Vinous Media

"Vivid ruby. Assertive aromas of redcurrant, raspberry and dried flowers are complemented by sexy oak spices. Suave, pliant and gently sweet flavors of red fruits, spicecake and rose are given definition by tangy acidity. Finishes dry, gently tannic and long, with resonating spice and floral notes." Description:

A no-brainer for those of you looking for powerhouse Spanish reds, today's offer is a bona-fide GEM!

-- Flagship label for iconic Spanish winery Senorio de Barahonda, sourcing 90 year old vines from an historic estate
-- Perfect for fans of Cabernet Sauvignon looking for new Powerhouse Reds on a budget
-- 91 Point 'under the radar' discovery, boasting "assertive aromas of redcurrant, raspberry and dried flowers, complemented by sexy oak spices"

Fans of Cabernet Sauvignon will flip over this wine, because it drinks similar to Cab, yet is still new and exciting! Yecla serves as the spiritual and historical home for the full-bodied, rustic red grape Monastrell (called Mourvedre in France - think Bandol and Southern Rhone). The astounding 'rediscovery' of Yecla has prompted incredible reviews from major critics in recent years. Robert Parker recognized the pleasure of this find, calling Senorio de Barrahonda a "marvelous bargain…a treasure-trove for full flavored Mourvedre". This is something truly special, folks, and at today's price, you’re getting a richly flavored limited production powerhouse of a wine.

The 2010 Barahonda Heredad Candela boasts unreal flavors from 90 year old Monastrell vines! Think El Nido Clio, yet with outrageous smoothness and depth of flavor from 100% Monastrell, and for only $23.98/bottle!?! Pairing amazingly with everything from Ribeye to Tandoori Chicken, this 91 pointer is a "buy-in-quantity" kind of opportunity if ever there were one!

Josh Raynolds (91 points) raved about this release's "assertive aromas of redcurrant, raspberry and dried flowers, complemented by sexy oak spices"! We jumped on every single case left in the market: it is THAT special!

Inventory is extremely limited, so the time to act is now. There will be nothing available from the winery or supplier once this sells out!

"Made with estate-owned 100% Monastrell grapes from head pruned vines that are dry farmed (no irrigation) and organically grown. The vines were planted in 1930.

Heredad de Candela is made by Senorio de Barahonda, the oldest winery in the Yecla DO region. The Candela family established the bodega in 1925. Heredad de Candela tastes like a clean, pure expression of old vine Monastrell. The wine's name refers to the winemaking heritage of the Candela family. Winemaker Araceli Gonzalez is one of the key figures whose work has shown the potential of Monastrell in Yecla. This grape is native to Spain and around the 5-6th Century it was brought to France, where it's called Mourvedre, and is now becoming well known in the southern Rhone, Provence and Languedoc Roussillon. Today, Alfredo Candela is the fourth generation bodeguero, or proprietor, of the Barahonda estate where the Candela family has resurrected some of the traditional winemaking techniques of this region such as utilizing open top fermenters and maceration with stems." -Importer
