89 Pts Antonio Galloni - Vinous |
"The 2010 Chianti is ridiculously great. Juicy dark cherries, mint, flowers and violets are some of the many notes that jump from the glass in this exuberant wine. The pure vibrancy of the year comes through in spades. This is easily one of the greatest values in Italian wine." |
Description:
"Marchesi Torrigiani is one of the most interesting wines in all of Italy. Year after year the wines deliver incredible quality for the money, yet the estate remains well under the radar. Budget conscious consumers would do well to seek out these delicious wines" - Antonio Galloni
This outrageously flavored 2010 Marchesi Torregiani Chianti floored not only us for its incredible flavors, but Antonio Galloni absolutely flipped over this as well! So much so, his review read: "the 2010 is ridiculously great. Juicy dark cherries, mint, flowers and violets are some of the many notes that jump from the glass in this exuberant wine. The pure vibrancy of the year comes through in spades. This is easily one of the greatest values in Italian wine."
Boasting vineyard property located around the hills of Florence, Marchese Torregiani dates back to the 13th Century. The same Torregiani family has continuously owned this 100 acre property since then, and current releases, including todayâs offering, have been made by 100 point winemaker Luca D' Attoma, famous for his wines from Tua Rita and Le Macchiole! With pedigree and reviews this impressive, this is a phenomenal opportunity to get a solid Italian wine on a budget.
Tasting Notes:
"Intense ruby in color. Both spicy and fruity on the nose with overtones of vanilla. Well-balanced on the palate with good structure followed by soft and alluring tannins. Pairs well with rich salami, ham, cheeses, and first courses with flavorful sauces." - Importer
Winery:
"The Torrigiani family entered into the "wine world" in the year 1280 when their ancestor, Ciardo Torrigiani, joined the Vintner's Guild in Florence and opened up a shop selling wine. He began a business that extended throughout Italy, into Europe, and is now worldwide.
The estate is located close to Barberino Val d'Elsa and covers a large area of the Florentine hills, or 'Colli Fiorentini.' There are 30 hectares of vineyards on the property. In recent years, the vineyards have been replanted with typical grape varieties such as Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot." - Importer
