93 Pts John Gilman - View from the Cellar

"This is the first vintage of les Clos that I can recall tasting from Marc Plouzeau. This is a far more chalky terroir than les Cornuelles, which has more clay and produces a more robust and meaty wine as a result, and the 2011 les Clos shows the inherent refinement that this vineyard can produce in a top vigneron’s hands. The bouquet is simply beautiful, wafting from the glass in a blend of dark berries, coffee bean, sweet black cherries, a very complex base of soil and a topnote of cigar ash. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and nascently complex, with a lovely core, excellent focus and balance, ripe tannins and excellent length and grip on the still quite structured finish. This will be a lovely wine with a bit more bottle age. 2018-2035+."

Description:

Winery:
"Thanks to the will of two generations, the Cheteau de la Bonneliere regained its nobility and its original vocation, vineyards and wine. In 1976, Pierre Plouzeau bought the family property, renovated the castle and replanted the vineyards disappeared. In 1989, a modern winery was born as well as a wine "Chinon Chateau de la Bonneliere". His son, Marc takes over the domain in 1999, continues to develop, going fully organic and perfects the cellar. Today it is a must-Chinon vineyards." - Winery

Winemaking:
"From the classical wine to the finest wines, the grapes are harvested with great care in hand picking. It is then transported in tank by gravity. The extraction is done gently without forcing nature. Without yeast chemical and no additions chaptalisation, grapes is slowly transformed into a tipical wine. Wine clarification is natural and high wines in barrels are unfiltered. Thus, the wine you have in your glass is an accurate reflection of the soil." - Winery
