More Ratings:

93 Pts Decanter

"Forward new oak nose with vanilla, powerful black fruit and violets. Flamboyant, concentrated, complex and spicy, with bags of vigour. Tight and structured, peppery and long. Shows the Haut-Medoc in the best way. Very good"

92 Pts James Suckling - Jamessuckling.com

"A wine with sweet strawberries and raspberries on the nose. Full body, with ultra-fine tannins and a delicious finish. This is balanced and savory for the vintage. And it's an environmentally sustainable winery. Better after 2016." (02/13)

90 Pts Wine Spectator

"Sports bold, modern toast, with overt anise and blueberry notes leading the way, backed by racy plum and raspberry fruit. The solid finish shows the vintage's telltale graphite spine, offering lively acidity for balance. Best from 2014 through 2020. 12,500 cases made. -JM" (03/13)

Description:

Boasting the power of the 2010 vintage coupled with the silky smooth style of the estate, the 2010 Chateau Larose Perganson is a steal. With history dating back to the early 1700s, this Cabernet-Sauvignon dominant cuvee hails from sustainably-farmed vineyards nestled between the villages of Saint-Julien-de-Beychevelle and Pauillac. It is showing beautifully right now, and has an aging window of 10-15 years!

In addition to rave reviews from James Suckling and the Wine Spectator, Decanter Magazine issued a huge 93 Point score and ranked it as one of the top 50 Wines of the Year; raving, "Forward new oak nose with vanilla, powerful black fruit and violets. Flamboyant, concentrated, complex and spicy, with bags of vigour. Tight and structured, peppery and long. Shows the Haut-Medoc in the best way. Very good"

Tasting Notes:
"A wine with clear, intense, brilliant color and a bouquet of black berries with spicier notes coming to the fore. On the palate the fullness of the wine is perfectly structured: great freshness, impressing voluptuousness, polished tannins, in an overall very elegant wine. Plenty of flavor and complexity. A very long lasting finish with great finesse. A definite cellaring wine. Please decant two hours before tasting. To be enjoyed between 2015 and 2025 with its peak being reached around 2020/2022." - Winery

History:
"During an Auction in 1719, Jean-Pierre du Pontet, Counselor to the King, acquires the Estate of Perganson. He adds this property to Langoa and Canet which he already owned. At his death, his oldest son M. Pontet de Canet inherits his properties in Saint-Julien; his younger son, M. Pontet-Perganson, in turn inherits the Chateau in Saint-Laurent.

The first brokering of the great wines of Perganson was done by the Lawton courtier firm in 1742. Its market price regularly put it at the 5th Classified Growth level. The name of Larose first appears in the 1830's, after Henry Delaroze, co-inheritor of future Gruaud-Larose in Saint-Julien, becomes owner of Perganson as well in 1815. Pontet-Perganson then becomes Larose-Perganson.

In 1986, Assurance Generales de France (Allianz) purchases the Estate, partaking in the tremendous potential of its terroir." - Winery
