92 Pts Luis Gutierrez - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"The 2013 Terroir Unico Malbec is unoaked and sourced from a special vineyard close to the winery, planted in poor soil. The code name they use internally to identify the wine is “chalk.” It does have a strong sense of minerality and the pure character of the Malbec, with fresh floral notes (violets), pungent aromatic herbs (lavender), and a spicy twist. The palate is very fluid, with tension. This is pure Malbec juice such that I had not experienced before. Unbelivable quality for the price! Drink 2014-2018." (04/14)

Description:

If there was ever a time to grab an incredible value by the case ... that time may be now. With the huge 92 Point rating issued by the Wine Advocate, this is in high demand.

Just reading the review from Luis Gutierrez of the Wine Advocate speaks volumes. Especially this line "This is pure Malbec juice such that I had not experienced before. Unbelivable quality for the price."

Without question, this winery is one to watch as the market in South America continues to rise. There are a lot of wines from this region that are available in excellent price points. However, we feel this one stands near the top of the pile. In fact, the initial customer reviews from those who have tried it thus far, have been nothing short of incredible.

More about this winery:
"Zorzal is a young, boutique winery founded in 2007 by the Michelini brothers, Gerardo, Matias, and winemaker Juan Pablo. The estate released its first vintage in 2008. The winery and vineyards are located in a subregion of the Uco Valley called Gualtallary, outside the town of Tupungato at approximately 4500 feet above sea level, making it the highest winery in Mendoza."

"The estate consists of 70 hectares with a unique blend of sand, stone, and limestone and is planted with multiple varietals including Malbec, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and a few others. The grapes are all hand harvested following the estate's vision to have a light hand in the winemaking and to simply let the fruit and terroir shine. The winery practices organic methods in the vineyards and uses only indigenous yeast in the winemaking process."

"Zorzal tends to pick grapes a little earlier in than most in Mendoza estates to retain freshness and acidity in their wines and to avoid the overblown ripeness that is too often seen from Mendoza. They are already considered to be a rising star in Argentina with their focused wines and enticing expression of multiple varietals above and beyond their already stunning Malbecs." - Importer
