"The 2008 Sagrantino di Montefalco is gorgeous in this vintage. Mocha, espresso, grilled herbs, tobacco and plums are woven together in this full-bodied voluptuous wine. All the elements are very much in the right place. Although not especially varietal, the 2008 boasts considerable depth, richness and power, all in a fairly sexy style for this wine. Plums, mocha, tobacco and incense all add complexity on the finish. The 2008 is decidedly overt and flashy. It is also one of the very best values in Sagrantino." (02/13) |

"Sagrantino is a native varietal of Umbria, which, according to some, was brought to the region by Franciscan monks centuries ago. In the last 30 years, Sagrantino has enjoyed a resurgence in Umbria. Rich in tannins and polyphenols, Colpetrone takes extensive care in the cultivation of Sagrantino order to produce an elegant, balanced wine. Sagrantino di Montefalco received the DOCG designation in the 1990s." - Importer

"Colpetrone became a member of the Saiagricola group in 1995 and is situated in the center of Umbria, a stoneâs throw from Foligno, Trevi and Bastardo. After a short time it became one of the key estates in the area of Montefalco, due to its spectacular red wine, Sagrantino of Montefalco. In the span of a few years time, Colpetrone went from obscurity to an Âinternationally Ârecognized premier Sagrantino producer. The designation of a DOCG appellation for ÂSagrantino di Montefalco in 1992 solidified the standing of both the Sagrantino varietal and Colpetrone. Today, the estate consists of 345 acres, 155 of which are vineyards. Colpetrone produces 200,000 bottles annually, offering consumers Rosso di Montefalco, Sagrantino di Montefalco, Gold ÂSagrantino di Montefalco and Sagrantino di Montefalco Passito." - Importer
